Live Scan is inkless electronic fingerprinting. The fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for completion of a criminal record check.
Applicants for Live Scan Fingerprinting must bring with them a Request for Live Scan Service Form (obtained from the agency requesting you obtain a Live Scan) and a VALID California Drivers License or California DMV issued ID Card.
There are two fees involved in the Live Scan process: The Rolling Fee (electronic fingerprinting fee) and the Background Investigation Fee.
All Phase Security charges $20.00 to roll your Electronic Fingerprints, and this fee is paid on-line when you register for a Live Scan.
The amount of the background investigation fee depends on the particular level of DOJ Investigation requested by the agency that is requiring you to take the Live Scan. The background fee is charged by DOJ to research your fingerprints to determine if you have a criminal record. If your Live Scan form, obtained from the agency requesting you obtain the Live Scan has a six-digit “Agency Billing Number”, then that agency will be billed for the background fees. If your form does not have that billing number, then you will be responsible for paying the background fee. More than likely, the agency that has requested your Live Scan will know the associated fees.
